WHAT IS DOODLING?

When you look at this artwork you might think ‘what does it mean? ’Well that is the whole point, it doesn’t mean anything! It’s your thoughts on paper and whatever object that comes to your mind just goes on the paper. Here is a step-by-step guide to get you started!

STEP 1 – THE SKETCH

These are loose strokes with pencil that act like the guidelines for your final product. They are meant to be just rough drawings and you should not get too refined with them. It is just there for you to get everything in place and figure out the composition of the artwork. Some of the details might not be a part of the final product. This happens and it’s completely okay! If you want to exclude something feel free to erase because at this point you still have the chance to.

STEP 2 – CHARACTERS & OBJECTS

Think of all your characters in the doodle as different avatars of yourself in a certain emotion. Some characters can be inspired by other artist’s avatars or artworks but it is always better to put your own twist on them.

As for objects they can be things that interest and influence you. One should definitely look out for some artists who doodle or maybe just artists that you like. A few artists that Ahaan really admires are Vexx, ZHC, Kesh and Kim Jung gi.

STEP 3 – INKING

You can use a thick marker or a fine pen to ink your doodle. In this step we start giving structure to our lines and add the more refined elements to our doodle. Also, as mentioned before exclude whatever feels wrong!

STEP 4 – ADD SOME TOUCH UPS

Just fill in the eyes of the characters, add some extra details or maybe add a few new objects. You can also use an eraser to remove all traces of lines you are not using. In the touch-up phase, you basically make the doodle look good by adding the finer details.

STEP 5 – ADD A BORDER

This step is optional and for canvases only! Ahaan used a yellow border for his doodle and make the whole thing just pop!
