THINK ABOUT THE OUTLINE OF YOUR STORY

Knowing your outline always helps in writing a book. It helps you stay on the right track. You should also write down your outline, just so you do not forget! Give your story a structure. Brainstorm your different ideas onto paper and figure out the best options for you.

Sometimes you can write about things in great detail and sometimes not. You could think of a nice sentence just like that, especially when one has one of those light bulb moments.

DON’T PUT YOURSELF UNDER THE PRESSURE OF TIME

Megan never put her under the pressure of time and that is what helped her book shine. When you pressurize yourself, you stop enjoying the pleasure of writing and when you find that you put yourself under pressure of any sort, you really don’t do it to the best of your best of ability even though you try to.

So, the best way is to simply relax knowing that nothing wrong is going to happen to you, if you take your time.

THINK ABOUT YOUR CHARACTERS

Another thing you need to think about is your characters. Know your characters as if you are their diary. If you don’t really become their diary, that can really cause some confusion. While writing it’s extremely important to think about your characters in detail.

PACE AND LENGTH OF YOUR SENTENCES

Pace and length of sentences is something one needs to keep in mind. If you want the reader to feel like something was going super-fast then you would have a series of short sentences with no adjectives at all unless necessary.

For example, if you are on a relaxed picnic in a beautiful garden then one would have a long descriptive sentence to show the peace in it but if you were in a war, one would have a series of short… because it makes the reader read fast and your brain automatically makes things go fast. This really helps the reader have that experience.

Megan wrote The Child Horse after seeing a war film. In the movie, she saw many horses being shot and going down and was heartbroken seeing that. She just had to write it! It was a given. She didn’t have to ask anyone, she just took her mom’s computer and started writing. She had no idea it will be published.

ABOUT LITKIDS INFLUENCER – MEGAN TANDON

Megan was 10.5 years when she started writing and 11.5 when she finished writing her first book, ‘The Child Horse’. When asked about her experience writing the book, Megan says, “It was great writing The Child Horse. I just felt relaxed. I felt that pleasure. I felt like something has been lifted off my back. I mean I love writing as it is and the more I enjoyed it the more I felt good, the best that came out of me!”

Apart from writing, Megan loves anything to do with space and now for her next book, she has decided to write about space, taking non-fiction and giving it a twist of some sort of story like a figure kind of thing! Sounds exciting! Isn’t it?
